Tests & Results

Most results take up to 7 days to be received by the surgery. Some take longer. Results will then be reviewed by a Doctor.

Results can be viewed on the NHS App or please call and speak to reception after 10am when phones lines are less busy. The receptionist can only tell you if your results are normal or whether further action is required and cannot give any detailed information about the actual result. Results will only be given to the patient – we cannot disclose information to third parties unless with prior written consent.

If you were asked by the GP to book an appointment to discuss your results, then please contact the surgery to arrange this appointment.  The doctor will telephone or message you if your result is of urgent concern. If routine further action is needed, you may receive a text or email message or reception will contact you requesting that you make an appointment for review with the requesting doctor.

Please note, the results of any investigations requested by a hospital consultant will not normally be sent to the surgery but will be discussed with you at your hospital follow-up appointment. Please contact the hospital to chase these results.

If you would like online access to your test results please ask reception

Why your NHS GP cannot routinely arrange blood tests requested by a private consultant

If you have been seen by a private consultant who has requested blood tests NHS GP practices are not automatically able to arrange investigations that are requested as part of a privately funded episode of care.

This is because:

-The private consultant is responsible for managing your private care, including arranging any investigations, blood tests, scans, follow-up appointments and treatment recommendations.
-NHS GP services are commissioned to provide care that the GP considers necessary as part of their own management of a patient’s NHS care. Tests requested solely by a private consultant fall outside the scope of NHS primary medical services.
-NHS resources cannot routinely be used to support privately funded care. The private provider should arrange and fund any investigations required for their assessment and treatment.
-A GP may only arrange tests if they are clinically appropriate for NHS care, the GP is the clinician responsible for managing the condition, and the GP is able to interpret the results and act upon them.

If your private consultant requires blood tests to inform their assessment or treatment plan, please contact their secretary or clinic so that they can arrange these investigations directly.

Should your condition require NHS assessment or treatment, please arrange an appointment to discuss managing your care in line with usual NHS pathways.
